Requirements and application process

The application process is quick and simple. You just have to complete the application form and attach a copy of your current valid driver's license and a color photo. This process can easily be completed online with the scanned images from the photo, driver's license and signature, through regular mail or by appearing in person at the Miami Headquarters office.

How the translation works

Your current local or national driver's license plus the additional application form provides us with the information necessary to translate your driving license into the IDD brochure and non-state ID card. Your name, residence, type of vehicle you are allowed to drive and more information are easily translated into the IDD brochure in 9 languages: English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, German, Arabic, Japanese and Chinese. The supplementary card translates this information into English in writing.

How to use the product properly

Driving as a tourist anywhere in the world, you can show your current valid driving license plus the international driving document to facilitate understanding of your permission of any local authority.

This translation is valid for up to three years but it can be used for more than a year in the same country or once the driver has developed a place of residence there. If the driver lives or stays in a country, the driver MUST apply for a local driver's license.

Remember, the IDD is just a translation of a driver's license and is not a regular driver's license. The IDD without a current valid driving license is not useful or a valid document to present it to any authority.

Details of the benefits

As stated above, the international driving document has foreseen to overcome the difficulties you have while driving in a vehicle in another country, which speaks a different language than your own. As an added feature, this document is quite useful in many car rental agencies and local driving authorities for identification, motor vehicle registration or insurance reasons.
